Child Development Resources (CDR) held a successful auction at Jamestown High School on Sunday, March 17, raising almost $180,000 for the organization. More than 500 people attended in the group’s largest fundraiser of the year, offering financial support to CDR to serve babies and young children in Williamsburg, James City County, York County, and Poquoson who have disabilities, developmental delays, or who are at risk for delay. A host of sponsors, volunteers, and supporters enjoyed a silent auction consisting of over 500 wonderful items, a live auction of ten packages, a presentation by a CDR parent, fun family entertainment and activities, music, a food court, and more.
“We are delighted with the outcome of this year’s auction,” said Paul Scott, CDR’s Executive Director. “The enthusiasm of our sponsors and guests, those present and our online bidders, was incredible, and the support they showed for the important work of our professional therapists, special educators, and family consultants was touching and sincere. The community clearly shares our belief that every child deserves the best possible start in life!”
Highlights of the afternoon included a testimonial of CDR’s services by parent Dina Elharon. Dina’s daughter, Farida, receives services through CDR’s Early Head Start program and participates in CDR’s Developmental Playgroup while Dina and her husband, Mahmoud Amin, participate in Parent Group.
“We would like to thank everyone who works at CDR,” Dina said in her presentation. “The staff works so hard at all levels to support the children and families with great professional support. Investing in kids is investing in everyone’s future. We are so fortunate to have CDR in our community.”
