Early Head Start

Early Head Start provides child development and family support services for families in Williamsburg, James City, York County and Poquoson who are income eligible.

The goals of the program are:

  • to provide a comprehensive program of child development for infants and toddlers and their families, as well as expectant mothers, and to promote positive family relationships.
  • to build the capacity of parents to promote their children's development, to obtain and direct the community services they want and need, and to reach and maintain physical and mental health, and economic self-sufficiency.
  • to enhance the capacity of the community to provide a seamless systems that promotes child development and supports families living in poverty through collaboration and advocacy.

Families enrolled in the Early Head Start program receive home-based services that include home visits, play groups, and parent groups. Center-based services are provided at CDR's Griffin-Yeates Center and at the EHS center located at Lafayette High School.
