5K Doubles Amount Raised

523 race participants and their friends, families, and CDR supporters, converged on The Vineyards of Williamsburg neighborhood on Saturday, August 14th, for the third year in a row to walk, run and cheer and raise money for Child Development Resources.
Thank you to everyone who supported The Vineyards of Williamsburg 5K through sponsoring, volunteering, raising money in the 10K for the 5K challenge, racing/walking and just coming out to show your support!

In this year’s event we doubled the amount raised last year including the 10K for the 5K challenge match of $10,000 from a very generous donor.
The weather was beautiful, the food from Hog Wild and the ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s were delicious! A great time was had by all.

This knowledge test was developed by Safety CAP: Children’s Asphyxiation Prevention Project, a project of the Virginia Department of Health, Preventing Unintentional Injuries Project

The Safety Cap project is designed to prevent asphyxiation and other unintentional injuries during sleep, feeding, and play in young children (birth through age 4), especially for families who are at-risk for child abuse and neglect, developmental delay, and poor health outcomes.
The activities of the project include:
· Develop a Home Safety Review that will assess home safety and educate families of children birth to 4 years of age.

· Conduct home visits that assess safety and educate families with children who are at-risk for poor health and development.

· Distribute equipment (e.g., portable cribs for safe sleep) and other safety materials.

· Present safety information and disseminate materials at parent group meetings.

· Provide early childhood and early intervention professionals with information and materials that will in turn educate additional families about safety.
