The Power of Community

Becoming a Father

When Darius Dixon and his wife were expecting their first child, they knew they needed someone to help them be the best parents they could be.

“My wife found out about CDR and enrolled in Early Head Start, and she encouraged me to contact CDR’s Fatherhood Program,” said Darius. He, too, registered, and learned how to care for a newborn, change diapers, and find the best ways to interact with his new baby.

We know a father’s presence matters, and children are more likely to lead healthy, successful lives when both their mother and father are actively involved in their lives in positive ways. Father presence matters, and CDR supports fathers through its family-centered approach to services.

“At first I was intimidated,” he said, “but I found support with my Fatherhood consultant. He listened to me, helped me through difficult challenges, and showed me he cared. Now I feel confident with my son and know I can be the father I want to be.”
