We were feeling lost and scared

Rana Simpson’s son, Mattox, who has Down syndrome, received weekly physical therapy visits in his home through CDR’s Infant & Parent Program. Through therapy Mattox progressed from not being able to sit on his own, to crawling, standing and even taking steps. 

“He was making great progress and learning so much, and then everything changed,” said Rana, referring to the pandemic and the state’s stay at home orders. Without his weekly physical therapy sessions, Rana noticed her son was regressing quickly and losing skills he had mastered with the help of his CDR therapist, Marion Addis. “We were feeling very lost and scared,” Rana admitted. 

Fortunately, things changed again when Marion called the York County family and asked if they would be interested in participating in virtual or teletherapy sessions. “We were so excited to have a routine again, and something to work towards,” said Rana, “and Mattox was so excited to see Marion again on the screen.”

Although they miss in-person visits and Developmental Playgroup, which Mattox participated in once a week, teletherapy has worked “wonderfully” for the Simpson family. 

“Teletherapy has helped us keep Mattox on track so that he will have the skills he’ll need for school in the fall. We are so grateful to CDR for being there for us.”
