A CAPITAL PROJECT to SECUre CDR'S FUTURE HOME

Building Stronger Futures Together

ThE Future of child Development resources

As a state and national leader in the field of early childhood education, CDR strives to provide cutting edge comprehensive services to families in our community and across the Commonwealth of Virginia. We are delighted to share the details of CDR’s future new home at 312 Waller Mill.

In 1965, the Williamsburg Preschool for Special Children opened its doors and served five children. By 1978, the growing preschool was named Child Development Resources and provided early intervention services for children with disabilities and delays. And in 1995 a dedicated building was built in Norge to further expand services to our community. CDR now serves more than 1,200 children each year in five locations, with continually growing programs and staff. And our Infant and Toddler Specialist Network provides consultation and training throughout the commonwealth of Virginia.

We believe we are facing another unique period in our history. We see the crisis children face and the impact the last several years have had on child development and learning. CDR is positioned to change the trajectory of the lives of children and families facing many challenges, including disabilities, developmental delays, poverty, homelessness, and other special needs. In this building, CDR will play a leadership role uniting community effort related to our mission, not only due to its central location, but due to the effectiveness of our presence in our community.

As we begin the next phase of our capital campaign, we are excited about meeting with friends and potential supporters to reach our goal. We are keenly aware that we would not be where we are today without your unwavering support for the children of our community. We look forward to your thoughts, ideas and questions as we move ahead and Build a Strong Future Together.

You Can Make a Difference

We will shortly invite all members of the community to help CDR ensure that our team is ready to meet the future needs of our community’s youngest and most vulnerable children and families by making a gift to our capital campaign. For more information, call Jud Crihfield at at (757) 566-2844.

Reaching Our Goal

A lead/challenge gift of $2 million to CDR, made in late 2020 by Dr. Alex Kaz and the Kaz Family Foundation, combined with numerous other generous gifts and matching grants, has us well on our way to raising the funds needed to renovate CDR’s new home, but we need the community’s help, and you will hear more about this in the months to come.

For more information regarding CDR’s Building Stronger Futures capital campaign, including learning about the availability of naming a space in our future home, please contact CDR’s Director of Development, Jud Crihfield, at judsonc@cdr.org, or call (757) 566-2844.

“Early childhood education and intervention services are changing. Offering our programs and therapies – together under one roof – will allow us to adapt and help the entire community.

“Ultimately, every family, baby, toddler, and early childhood professional in our geographic area will benefit from our improved collaboration and coordination of services.”

—Paul Scott, CDR Executive Director
